Mindfulness Therapy over Skype for Overcoming Anxiety and Depression

Standard talk therapy can be beneficial, but often it does not look at the the underlying process that creates your emotional suffering. Many of my clients tell me that just talking about their feelings is not enough. The same applies to the use of medication which also do not treat the underlying psychological process. This is part of what motivated me to develop a totally different way of working with anxiety and depression – Mindfulness Therapy.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I provide therapy over Skype for anxiety and depression.

Skype therapy is a very effective way of learning the mindfulness-based techniques that I specialize in for overcoming the habitual processes that create anxiety and depression.

During the online therapy sessions, I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to overcome and heal anxiety and depression so that you don’t continue to suffer from these habitual patterns of emotional reactivity.

It is much easier than you may think. It doesn’t take much time to really master these techniques and if you practice them diligently every day, then you will see tremendous changes and tremendous reduction in the level and the intensity of your anxiety or depression, within weeks.

The key to Mindfulness Therapy, which is the style of psychotherapy that I teach online over Skype, is to learn to change the way you relate to your emotions. You have to stop those negative patterns of avoidance and aversion to your anxiety or depression.

This is critical. If you try to escape from your painful emotions then they simply are not able to heal. You have to establish a conscious relationship with them in the present that is based on developing conscious awareness and a quality of friendliness, opening the mind and heart to receive your anxiety and depression like a guest in your house.

Of course, our biological conditioning tells us otherwise – it will try to make us avoid or run away from our emotions – but this is the most dangerous thing you can do. If you continue to avoid or resist unresolved emotional suffering like anxiety or depression, then those emotions will simply grow stronger.

However, if you develop the mindfulness strategies that I teach for actually sitting with your emotions and facing them directly with openness of mind and openness of heart, then you will be creating the ideal conditions in which those emotions will heal.

So, that is one of the most important things that we explore during these online therapy sessions.

If you would like to learn more about how to work with anxiety and depression using mindfulness, go to my website and learn more, and if you would like to schedule a therapy session over Skype, please email me and we can arrange for a time that works for you.

Therapy over Skype for Recovery from Anxiety and Depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional mindfulness-based online therapist. I offer therapy over Skype for help with overcoming anxiety and depression and also for help with recovery from addictions.

Therapy over Skype is a very convenient way of getting the help that you need to work with your emotions from the comfort of your own home. Making psychotherapy accessible has been a very important mission for me.

The style of therapy that I offer is called Mindfulness Therapy and you can read much more about this on my website.

Basically, the approach here is to try and help teach you practical mindfulness-based methods of overcoming anxiety and depression and other forms of habitual emotional reactions.

Skype Therapy is particularly effective for treating anxiety and depression as, I say, and most people really enjoy the mindfulness approach because it is far practical and less clinical in nature. I do not offer medical treatment online, of course. What I do offer is a way of changing how you work with your emotions so that you can overcome those habitual habits of emotional reactivity, and anxiety and depression respond very well to the mindfulness-based approach that I offer through Skype.

Overcome habitual reactivity

This is the key to achieving psychological wellbeing. You need to break free from those habitual emotional and cognitive reactions because they feed the underlying anxiety or depression. We tend to blindly accept these habitual reactions, and this is the primary problem called Reactive Identification. Thoughts by themselves are not the problem, but when you blindly identify with them then they take on power and feed emotional suffering.

During Mindfulness Therapy I will teach you how to apply mindfulness and meditation to free yourself from these reactive habits.

Online Skype counseling therapy - see an online therapist for anxiety and depression via Skype
See an online therapist over Skype for help with anxiety and depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I provide online mindfulness therapy over Skype.

Mindfulness Therapy is a very, very effective way of dealing with anxiety and also depression. The reason why it is so effective is because it is the most direct method there is for actually changing the pathways that create anxiety and depression in the mind.

The primary cause of anxiety and depression is habitual reactive pathways of avoidance and resistance to anxiety or depression or any other emotions, for that matter, that become chronic.

When we inadvertently establish these patterns of avoidance and aversion, it effectively prevents the anxiety or depression from healing. It simply feeds those emotional habits.

With Mindfulness Therapy, we start to actually bring the opposite of avoidance and the opposite of resistance to those emotions that need our help. We cultivate conscious awareness of our anxiety or depression and we also develop compassion and friendliness towards those emotions.

We start to see that those emotions are simply parts of our self that is in pain and that requires our compassion and our conscious awareness in order to heal themselves.

If we set up pathways of avoidance and resistance then we set up pathways that prevent those emotions from ever healing.

During Mindfulness Therapy sessions, we learn very practical and very direct methods for developing this extremely important relationship based on consciousness and friendliness, or compassion. This combination of consciousness and friendliness, or compassion, is the definition of mindfulness.

When you bring this quality of mind to emotional suffering, it heals. Then the emotions actually learn how to heal themselves through connection with this consciousness and friendliness that you establish. That is what they need to heal.

The best analogy here would be: think of a child. If a child is in pain, what does it most need to heal that pain, that emotional suffering? The answer is that what it most needs is connection with its parents, with its mother or father. That connection allows it to access the consciousness and compassion and friendliness and love of the parent, which allows that emotion to resolve itself within the child. When that connection (love) is missing, then the child cannot resolve and heal and the emotional pain converts into other patterns of reactivity that further prevent it’s healing and that leads to even more suffering.

So, this quality of connection between your True Self, which is like the parent, and your emotional suffering, anxiety, depression, whatever it may be, which is like the child. This quality of connection is what really creates the proper psychological conditions that lead to healing, and this is what is required for anxiety and depression to resolve themselves. You are teaching the emotions how to resolve themselves through access to your True Self.

This is what I have found, over and over again, to be the most important thing there is that you can do.

Therapy over Skype for the treatment of anxiety and depression

Skype therapy is a very convenient way of getting the kind of help that you might be looking for, for managing anxiety or depression or other difficult emotions.

The online format is particularly suitable for people suffering from anxiety. Many people who suffer from anxiety find it difficult to leave home, so therapy over Skype is a very good option for them.

The whole basis, really, of the online therapy service that I offer is to teach you very effective mindfulness-based techniques for overcoming long standing patterns of anxiety or depression.

Mindfulness gives you a way of changing your relationship to the mind, to the emotions and to the thoughts and to the beliefs that really determine how you feel and the quality of your life.

Overcome blind identification with emotions and thoughts

For most of us, we find that we tend to blindly identify with emotional reactions and thoughts and beliefs that have become established over the years. When we become identified with mind in this way then we become limited by those identifications and this begins to contract your sense of your self, your ability to respond to changing circumstances and challenges, and it reduces the quality of life quite dramatically.

The optimum state of mental health is when we are not identified with thoughts or beliefs or memories or particular emotional reactions. The ideal state of health is when we are free to respond in the moment, skillfully and compassionately to the precise needs that present themselves during each moment of our life.

This is what mindfulness teaches you how to do: How to live more presently with life in general, but also with your mind as well – how to live presently with anxiety or depression without becoming lost in those emotional states or in the reactive thinking that is triggered by those emotional states. When you stop feeding emotions, they will always undergo resolution and healing; it is that habitual reactivity that prevents them healing.

Emotional suffering, including anxiety, depression, grief, obsession, fear or anger will all heal if you create the right conditions for healing. Their nature is to heal, in much the same way that a wound heals in the body. If you want to heal anxiety and depression then you have to be free to respond skillfully to those emotions that have arisen and this is exactly what I will be teaching you during our therapy sessions together.

Therapy over Skype for treating anxiety and depression

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I offer therapy over Skype for the treatment of anxiety and depression and also therapy over Skype for helping you recover from addictions. if you are suffering from some form of addiction.

Therapy over Skype is very convenient, of course, it is something that allows you to get the help that you need from the comfort of your own home and it puts you in charge of your recovery process, which is one of the main reasons why more people are turning to some form of online therapy, and turning away from medications to treat anxiety and depression.

Medications may provide temporary relief from symptoms, but, of course, medications and antidepressants will do nothing to change the underlying psychological process that creates your anxiety or depression. The fundamental cause of anxiety and depression is a psychological process and it needs to be tackled through psychological means, that is, some form of psychotherapy that helps you change those underlying reactive patterns of thinking, of beliefs and of behaviors that actually feed the anxiety or depression or addiction.

This is exactly what I offer during the online therapy sessions. I will teach you very specific and well-tested mindfulness methods for changing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression.

These methods are easy to learn and you will see significant improvements within 3-4 sessions. Even after the first trial session you should see substantial improvements and you will begin to develop an understanding of the methods and how to use them yourself.

It is what you do between sessions that is most important. My job as a psychotherapist is to give you the tools to continue your healing process, rather than just providing some form of treatment once a week. In this way you will develop more and more skill in managing your emotions. The goal is freedom from anxiety or depression and this is entirely possible. It’s all about learning how to relate to your inner emotions and thoughts in a way that promotes healing. Mindfulness Therapy remains one of the very best ways for achieving this goal.

So, if you would like to learn more about therapy over Skype, do please go to my website and email me and then we can schedule a Skype therapy session. Thank you!

Psychotherapy over Skype for overcoming anxiety and depression through Mindfulness Therapy

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I am a professional online therapist and I offer Skype therapy. Psychotherapy over Skype is becoming very popular these days. It is very convenient for you, it means you don’t need to leave home, or if you are living abroad you can continue your therapy sessions, and it is also very convenient if you prefer the anonymity of talking to a therapist online.

Most of my clients live in the United States, but I also see a number of people by Skype living abroad as far away as Australia. Of course, I see a lot of people in the United Kingdom and Western Europe.

Generally, people come to this service because they are interested in the style of psychotherapy that I offer over Skype, which is called Mindfulness Therapy.

This is an extremely effective way of working with anxiety and depression, and sometimes I work with addictions as well. It is about controlling the reactive habitual emotions that tend to overwhelm us and create problems in our lives.

Mindfulness is a very powerful tool for changing habitual emotional reactions.

Mindfulness Therapy teaches you how to do this, how to change your relationship with your emotions and how to accelerate the process of healing

The mind needs to learn new pathways for resolving anxiety and depression rather than the old pathways that simply feed or accelerate anxiety and depression. You are essentially learning how to create new perceptual pathways in the brain that will lead to the resolution of emotional suffering.

This becomes automatic after training and the emotions effectively learn how to resolve themselves if they get activated. The resulting effect is that the level of anxiety or depression decreases significantly, such that you can say, “I no longer feel that anxiety or depression that I used to feel before Mindfulness Therapy.”

So, if you would like to learn more, go to my website and email me. We can schedule a Skype therapy session so you can see for yourself just how effective this mindfulness approach is for resolving anxiety and depression. Thank you!

Mindfulness-based Therapy for Healing Emotional Suffering without relying on Prescription drugs

The more familiar form of counseling may be a great help, but what most people find is that talking about your feelings does not help you recover from the underlying structure that is the real cause of your depression or anxiety.

Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy is an excellent choice for most people because it works on transforming the root cause of your anxiety or depression rather than just treating symptoms. The focus is on teaching you practical tools and techniques that you can apply yourself between sessions. This is why most people notice results very much quicker than is reported for the usual “talk therapy.”

Go to my website and email me to discover more about this online counseling service and to organize a Skype therapy session with me.

Mindfulness Therapy Over Skype

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I provide Mindfulness Therapy over Skype. I have been teaching Mindfulness Therapy for 12 years now and I find it to be extremely effective for working with anxiety and also depression and addictions and many of the common psychological and emotional problems that we experience in life.

The mindfulness approach is extremely good for working with the mind, with emotions and with thoughts and with traumatic memories also. We learn how to develop a mindful, conscious relationship with our mind. That means we learn how to meditate on the mind.

Most people are not used to this approach. They try to either get away from the mind. They may even use meditation to escape the mind, but this is in my opinion the wrong approach.

We should be learning how to change the relationship that we have with the mind. If you avoid painful emotions or painful thoughts or painful memories then that will basically feed the emotional pain and it will not heal.

So avoidance is not a good strategy. And really, any form of reactivity that takes consciousness away from the mind is going to simply leave those emotional reactive habits intact. It will not promote healing. So mindfulness is about developing more consciousness of the mind, not less.

We do this by meditating on our thoughts, on our emotions, on our memories, on anything that is in a state of suffering, is not resolved properly. So we hold our emotions in the mind. We learn how to build a relationship that is non-reactive and fully present with the emotions or thoughts or memories.

This is what promotes change and healing: the quality of that non-reactive relationship. Reactivity, whether it’s avoidance or aversion or whether it’s even just talking about the emotion or labeling it or judging it in some way. Any form of reactivity like that will simply feed the underlying habits and will stop it changing.

But when you do the opposite, that is cultivate a conscious, mindful relationship with the emotion or other mental objects, then that allows healing to take place.

It’s rather like being by a fire. The nature of the fire is to burn itself out. That is its natural path. But we inadvertently feed the fire by throwing fuel on it.

Well reactivity is like that fuel, it feeds the fire of anxiety or depression or any other form of emotional suffering. So the first step in mindfulness training is learning how to overcome that habit of reactivity to our emotional pain whether that’s anxiety or depression.

The second part of mindfulness training is to investigate the structure of your emotions. So this means looking at the imagery of the emotion. What color is it? How large is it? Is it large or small? What is the position of the emotion? How do you see it in the mind? Do you see it above you and does it feel overwhelming? Does it weigh heavily on you? People often experience painful emotions rather like a weight or something heavy weighing down on them.

What color is it? Very important. Most people, when they look at an emotion like anger, they will see the color red. Depression has the color black, and so on. These colors are all part of the imagery. Now that imagery is what actually creates the emotion. It’s what holds it together. So investigating the imagery of our emotions is very important. And when we change that imagery we help the emotion heal.

So there is a direct relationship between the emotion and the emotional imagery. And when you change one, you change the other. So that is described as the response of compassion, which is a strong part of Mindfulness Therapy. It is not sufficient to just see the emotion and not react to it. We must respond by helping it heal and we do that by changing his imagery.

So Mindfulness Therapy is an interesting, exciting and really quite novel approach for most people. People really enjoy working with their mind in this way, actually getting to see how their mind works and then developing those skills that promote healing and wellbeing.

Because it’s so focused, Mindfulness Therapy is usually very, very quick at producing substantial changes and improvements. Most people see quite remarkable improvements after just three or four Skype Therapy sessions with me.

The secret is learning how to apply mindfulness to investigate your emotions and then to promote healing. And when you develop these skills you can practice them between sessions so that greatly increases the rate of recovery and healing.

One person I was working with just recently was suffering from PTSD and was plagued by very upsetting visual images, memory images that were quite traumatic. And these images would keep appearing and re-traumatizing her. So how do we work with that using mindfulness? Well you learn to meditate on those traumatic images.

First of all, learning to stay conscious and present with those images without reacting, which feeds them. Then we explore the response of compassion. How can we help that image change? And in her case she found that she was able to shrink the image down to make it very, very small. And then she was able to take that traumatic image and hold it in her hands and comfort it. And this really changed things around in a big way for her.

And after no more than two or three sessions and the homework or practicing being with her traumatic memories using her mindfulness in this way, meditating on those traumatic memories, she basically became free from the re-traumatizing effect of that memory. She could recall the event and not feel the emotional trauma.

So that is one example of the power of working with the images of our emotions. The same approach can be taken with any emotion whether it’s anxiety or depression or anger or compulsion, in the case of an addiction. All emotions are structured around imagery and when you get to see what that imagery is you can change it, and changing the imagery is a central, necessary step for healing.

So if you would like to learn more about Mindfulness Therapy over Skype and you would like to schedule a session with me to see how effective this is for your particular needs then please email me. Simply reach out to me by e-mail. Tell me more about yourself and how I can help you, and when you feel ready we can schedule a Skype Therapy session. Thank you.

Is online therapy as good as in-person?

So I’m often asked is therapy over Skype as good as psychotherapy in person? And the answer is, in the vast majority of cases, yes. And it can even be better for many people who may be struggling with anxiety or depression or addiction. It’s often very difficult to talk about these kinds of emotional problems in a public setting. People like the greater privacy offered by therapy over Skype and online therapy in general. It’s much more comfortable, it’s easier to work on difficult feelings.

The style of psychotherapy that I offer over Skype is called Mindfulness Therapy, which is a particular way of working with the mind. Mindfulness is a form of consciousness that we develop. We develop conscious awareness to try and break out of these habits that create our anxiety and depression.

So anxiety and depression are basically emotional-psychological habits. They become conditioned and they operate unconsciously like any other habits. We become a victim of these habits and they can cause a great deal of suffering.

Make your emotional habits conscious

So in Mindfulness Therapy the first thing we do is make these habits conscious. We actually look very closely at our psychological habits whether that’s emotional reactivity or cognitive reactivity or behavioral reactivity in the case of addiction.

We look at the actual process that’s going on in the mind that creates these emotional states. We look at the patterns of reactive thinking that supports and feeds anxiety and depression. We don’t just blindly accept reactive thinking or emotional reactivity. Instead we examine it and we look closely at what’s actually going on.

When you take this kind of approach of inquiry, of actually exploring how your mind is creating anxiety or depression, then you can begin to change those underlying habits.

So habits thrive on the absence of consciousness, but they are very vulnerable to developing conscious awareness. When you illuminate habits with consciousness you’re able to change them and often quite easily and quite quickly.

So the first training is developing more consciousness around your anxiety or depression. The primary method we use to do this is called mindfulness meditation. This means meditating on the mind. It means meditating on those thoughts and emotions or traumatic memories or beliefs, or whatever it might be that’s causing suffering. We deliberately choose to meditate on these to explore their structure and then start to break free from that blind habit of identification with these habitual thoughts, beliefs and reactions.

All you have to do really is become aware of them. When you become the observer, that process actually frees you from those habits. The habits are reduced to an object that you can observe, but you become the observer instead of becoming lost in the thoughts and the emotional habits.

So that’s a very important part of mindfulness training. When you develop a relationship with your mind, with the contents of mind, in which you are not identified and not run by habitual reactivity, then you can help the anxiety depression heal. And that’s the second major theme in Mindfulness Therapy.

Mindfulness Therapy is about healing suffering

The emphasis is on helping the mind heal. It’s about helping anxiety heal so that you no longer feel anxiety or panic attacks. It’s about helping depression heal so that you no longer feel that terrible state of exhaustion or helplessness or feeling like a victim. It is about helping grief heal if you’re experiencing grief. And very importantly it’s about helping you recover from emotional trauma.

So we all accumulate different levels of emotional trauma in our life and a lot of this trauma does not resolve, does not heal properly and it becomes a source of anxiety and depression and then behaviors like addictions, which are ways of trying to cope with that internal suffering.

So healing is a primary focus. How do we heal emotional suffering? Well the first most important thing of course is to not continue to blindly feed that emotional suffering by indulging in those blind habits.

So changing the relationship to being one of the observer is like really becoming a parent to a child. Here you are becoming a parent to your emotions. You cannot heal emotional suffering if you simply react with more emotional suffering. So you have to become like a parent to your own emotions. You have to learn to embrace them and develop a conscious and caring relationship with those emotions if you want them to heal.

Trying to get rid of them trying to talk your way out of feeling anxiety or depression is not effective. You have to work at the level of the emotion itself and the most important thing that emotions need for healing is your conscious presence, being able to stay with those emotions without reacting.

So if you’d like to learn more about this mindfulness-based approach for healing and overcoming habitual emotional reactivity or trauma then please go to my website and e-mail me.

Looking for therapy over Skype for Anxiety and Depression?

The more familiar form of talk therapy may be helpful, but what most people find is that common talk therapy does not change the underlying habits that creates your emotional suffering.

This also applies to the use of medications – antidepressants may provide a temporary relief from anxiety and depression symptoms for a while, but medications are not effective for changing the underlying cause that causes the anxiety or depression.

The kind of therapy that I recommend is known as Mindfulness Therapy, which is extremely successful for controlling anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, OCD and intrusive thinking, Phobias and Panic Disorder as well as for treating depression and other psychological issues caused by habitual negative thinking.

Most people notice very significant improvements after 3-4 weeks of Skype Therapy with me.

Mindfulness Meditation Therapy is very effective because it works on changing the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression rather than just treating symptoms. The focus is on teaching you practical tools and techniques that you can apply yourself between sessions. This is why most of my clients notice changes very much quicker than is reported for the more conventional counseling through talking about your feelings.

Nearly all of us, obviously, react negatively to our anxiety, depression or other disagreeable emotions with avoidance or some type of aversion to those unpleasant emotions. We do not like these negative feelings and thoughts and we try to get rid of them. This really is very the worst thing you could potentially do, because aversion and avoidance have the effect of reinforcing the emotional suffering causing it to become more powerful. Any form of reactivity has the negative effect of reinforcing anxiety or depression and this prevents emotional healing.

Welcome. If you’re looking for therapy over Skype for anxiety or depression or addiction or any other emotional problem, please go to my website and learn more about this online therapy service that I offer.

All my therapy sessions are done via Skype. I do this because most people actually prefer online therapy rather than meeting in person. It’s certainly a great deal more convenient for you and it also is generally a lot more comfortable and less intimidating than going to see a therapist in their office.

As long as you use Skype or similar video platform, there’s really no difference in the effectiveness of psychotherapy delivered online via Skype when compared to psychotherapy in person. You have to be able to see each other. That’s really the main factor here. And of course, Skype makes that possible. If you can see each other, then the communication is really no different than being in the same room together.

So convenience and the comfort of being able to have your sessions at home are major factors. But also people want more choice. They want more variety than may be available in their local area. Most of my clients have a particular interest in Mindfulness Therapy, which is what I specialize in and have developed over the years. I have developed a way of working with anxiety and depression and other psychological emotional problems using mindfulness, which is very, very effective indeed.

The mindfulness approach is one that gives you the tools, the methods that you can use yourself to work on healing your anxiety or depression. That’s really important. I really prefer that approach than a treatment-based approach because a treatment approach such as medications doesn’t really give you any new learning or insights or ways of working with your emotions. Even conventional talk therapy or counseling often really doesn’t teach you much, and seldom does it get to the root cause of your emotional suffering.

Medications certainly do not get to the root cause of anxiety or depression. And unless you really work hard on healing the underlying cause of your emotional suffering, then you will always be vulnerable and that’s not really good enough.

So Mindfulness Therapy really focuses at the core level of your emotional suffering. It really transforms things from the inside out. And people see tremendous benefits once they start learning how to apply mindfulness for working with anxiety or depression or addiction.

online therapy for panic attacks

I see many people who suffer from agoraphobia, for obvious reasons because it’s so difficult to leave home when you’re suffering from such a severe anxiety disorder like agoraphobia.

I work a lot with panic attacks. Panic anxiety is very common.

Online therapy via Skype for overcoming driving anxiety and highway phobia

I see lots of people who suffer from driving anxiety and driving phobia who find it very difficult to drive out of their comfort zone.

This can all be overcome by the right kind of training, by learning very practical and very focused and specific ways of working with your emotions.

So if you’d like to learn more about the Mindfulness Therapy service that I offer online via Skype, then do please contact me. Tell me more about yourself and how I can help you and we can schedule a trial Skype therapy session. Most people really enjoy this approach and learn a great deal in the process. And you should expect to see significant changes after just three or four sessions with me.

And that is really an indication of the effectiveness of Mindfulness-based psychotherapy. It is not appropriate to go to a therapist for years to try and get relief from chronic anxiety or depression. That simply indicates an ineffective approach. But Mindfulness Therapy generally is very effective for most people. And you’ll see, very quickly, even after the first trial session, you’ll see changes once you start applying the mindfulness techniques that I will be teaching you.

Mindfulness meditation for healing anxiety & depression

The first of those techniques is really learning how to meditate on your emotions. This is really important. You need to learn how to work in a very conscious way with your emotions and with your thoughts.

And most people don’t do that. They simply try to avoid their emotions, especially if they’re painful or traumatic. They try to run away or distract themselves from intrusive thoughts or memories and so on. And any kind of avoidance or aversion is not going to help.

So Mindfulness Therapy is, clearly, the exact opposite of that. It is a process of establishing very conscious awareness of your emotions and traumatic memories or thoughts or whatever it might be that’s causing your emotional suffering.

You must establish that internal conscious relationship, and you need to build a relationship internally, in which you are not reacting with avoidance or aversion or any kind of reactivity to your emotions. If you react to your anxiety or depression, that simply reinforces the underlying emotions. So learning to form a non-reactive relationship is the first part of our training and is really quite essential for change and for eventual freedom from anxiety and depression.

So if you would like to learn more about the mindfulness approach to overcoming anxiety and depression and for basically facilitating inner emotional healing, then please do contact me and let’s schedule a therapy session over Skype. Thank you.

Therapy over Skype for treating Anxiety & Depression without drugs using Mindfulness Therapy

Psychotherapy over Skype is just as good as therapy in-person for the vast majority of people. As long as you can see each other, then there is no real difference.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional online therapist teaching Mindfulness Therapy for the treatment of anxiety and depression.

If you’re interested in therapy over Skype for treating anxiety and depression, then do please read more of the pages and watch more of the videos on my website and learn more about this online therapy service and particularly the Mindfulness Therapy approach that I teach online.

It’s very effective and most people that I work with really prefer online therapy to meeting in person with a therapist. It’s more convenient and it’s also much more empowering for you. You feel more in charge when you’re conducting your therapy session from home.

There’s no difference in the quality of therapy or psychotherapy online as long as you use Skype or a similar video format so that you can see each other. If you can’t see each other on Skype, there is no difference to meeting in person. And indeed, from my experience, people prefer online therapy via Skype.

They also find it to be much more appropriate for dealing with anxiety disorders or difficult emotions, where it’s often very difficult to talk about those emotions in person. The interface of the video format usually makes people feel much more comfortable about talking about difficult emotions, and that’s very important. So from my experience working both online and in person, I prefer Skype and I offer my sessions almost exclusively now via Skype.

This is not a medical approach. I do not diagnose illnesses and I do not treat illnesses. And in fact, I don’t recommend that sort of treatment-based approach. Medications more often than not cause more problems than they solve. They certainly do nothing at all to heal the underlying psychological process that causes your anxiety or depression or other form of emotional suffering.

So emotional suffering is produced by the mind and it needs a psychological approach to uncover the mechanism that produces your emotional suffering. Treating it with medications is not going to do that. T

rying to escape your emotional pain through addiction is not going to help either. And also endlessly talking about your emotions is not really as good as working with them directly. And that is what I focus on in Mindfulness Therapy.

We don’t talk about our emotions or our family history so much. That’s of secondary importance. The primary importance is how do you generate your anxiety or depression? What happens in your mind that creates those emotional states? We start to take charge of this process.

We uncover the underlying blind reactive habits and reactive, habitual thinking and reactive beliefs that support your anxiety or depression.

We also look at the structure of the emotion itself. This is very important. What exactly is anxiety or excuse me, or depression? What does it look like? What is the underlying imagery that generates that anxiety or depression? The area of working with imagery is one of my specialties and it’s a really interesting area.

Not many people study this or teach it online, but it is quite clear to me that all emotions are based around internal psychological imagery. How you see the emotion in the mind is what actually creates that emotion. That is the primary cause, the imagery, and that imagery becomes habitual.

So basically what happens is whenever the right conditions are present, whenever the right triggers are present, those triggers trigger that internal imagery and that creates the emotion. So uncovering this imagery is very important.

You can explore this yourself. Just simply focus on your emotion and try to get a sense of the imagery. Ask yourself some simple questions. For example, where do I see this emotion? It’s very often seen in the body. It has a physical position, maybe in the chest or the throat or the stomach or in the head. But it has a position and that’s part of its imagery.

Typically, people feel overwhelmed by their emotions. Well, that tells you that the imagery is very large. It also tells you that it is in a high position in your internal psychological field of view. It has to be in that position in order to be overwhelming.

So this is quite interesting because we can make a statement here that depression cannot be overwhelming if it is made very small and if it is placed at a lower level on the ground, for example. It has to be in that particular configuration to work. Well, as we uncover the imagery of our emotions, we can start to change that imagery. The imagery is simply habitual. There is nothing special about it. It just got established out of blind habit.

So we uncover this imagery, which is quite easy to do. And I will teach you how to do this. And then we work on helping that imagery change. And the golden rule here is when the imagery changes, then the emotion changes. And so this is the primary mechanism for the healing of emotional suffering, that is changing the imagery.

Reactive thinking and reactive beliefs have the effect of feeding that emotion and its imagery. But it’s important to understand the difference here. Rumination, thoughts, reactive thoughts, does not cause emotional suffering, but they will feed it.

So it’s very important that we uncover those blind patterns of reactive thinking that we simply follow without any choice or any control at all. We need to see those thoughts and beliefs very clearly how we need to break the habitual nature of those thoughts and beliefs. And we do this by developing mindfulness.

Mindfulness is a very special form of consciousness that allows you to see things clearly as they are to stay as the observer. And that’s the important thing here. If you can remain as the observer and not fall into the patterns of reactivity, then you are basically training the mind to free itself from those habits. So developing this observer consciousness is the hallmark of mindfulness and it is the hallmark of the healing properties of mindfulness.

The more that we start to develop objectivity in relationship to our emotions and thoughts, seeing them as objects in the mind and not identifying with them, the more we can help them heal. And this is the active side of mindfulness work that we call compassion, the response of compassion.

Compassion means being able to be present with suffering and then helping that suffering heal. So we’re able to be with our emotions because we are not reacting to them and now we can start to help them heal even further.

Often, mostly by the process of helping that imagery change. But also just by developing that different relationship that doesn’t feed the emotion and a different relationship internally in which you provide the emotional strength and fearlessness and love for those parts of yourself that are in pain.

This internal connection is very, very important feature of mental health. You need to learn how to develop this internal relationship between your higher self and the emotions and content of the mind.

So there’s a lot to explore in this very rich teaching on mindfulness. It is a wonderful topic to explore and develop, and I will teach you how to apply mindfulness online during our Skype therapy sessions. Mindfulness Therapy works very well over Skype.

It’s an excellent choice for most people and it’s one of the most effective approaches that I know of for healing, anxiety and depression, for treating them without using medications or other means of suppressing those emotions.

So if you’d like to learn more and you like the idea of therapy over Skype, then please go to my website. And please feel free to send me an email. Ask any questions you may have. Tell me more about your particular situation and I will be happy to explain to you how I think we can help you overcome your emotional suffering using the methods of Mindfulness Therapy.

This system has proven very effective. I developed this system of Mindfulness Therapy or Mindfulness Meditation Therapy as it’s also called many years ago now, and it’s still, really, is the best approach that I know of.

It has some elements of CBT or cognitive therapy in it, but it really works much more at the fundamental level of emotions, since we understand that thoughts do not cause emotions is the other way around. Emotions lead to reactive thinking that then feeds the emotions.

So working with the emotions is the most critical thing that we can do here if you want to produce effective and lasting healing, if you really want to overcome anxiety or depression or OCD or if you really want to recover from emotional trauma, then Mindfulness Therapy is the best choice.

Old style counseling can certainly be helpful, but what most people find is that common talk therapy does not help you heal the underlying process that creates your anxiety and depression.

This also applies to the use of prescription medications – medications may provide a short-term relief from anxiety and depression symptoms for a while, but medications will not transform the underlying psychological process that produces your emotional suffering.

So please contact me if you would like to schedule some therapy sessions over Skype and I’d be happy to work with you. Thank you.

Most people see significant reduction in the intensity of their anxiety and depression after 3-4 weeks of Mindfulness Therapy with me.

Psychotherapy over Skype for treating Anxiety & Depression

The most important part of the recovery process is to learn how to break the patterns of blind habitual reactive thinking that feed your anxiety or depression. This is a main focus in Mindfulness Therapy, which is often described as ‘the direct path to healing.’

During our sessions together I will teach you how to apply mindfulness to do this. This approach is immensely effective, much more so than just talking about yourself as is so common in conventional counseling, and most of my clients see significant improvements within a matter of weeks, not years.

Welcome! My name is Peter Strong. I’m a professional psychotherapist based in Colorado and I offer online psychotherapy via Skype for treating anxiety and depression using the techniques of Mindfulness Therapy rather than using drugs and prescription medications, which really are not effective at changing the underlying psychological process that causes your anxiety and depression. And that is the focus of Mindfulness Therapy. It is to help you see how your anxiety and depression works. It is seeing how the processes work at the psychological level that creates your emotional suffering.

So, of course, a big factor in that process is the constellation of reactive thoughts, rumination and reactivity that feeds the anxiety and depression. Now it’s important to understand from the point of view of Mindfulness Therapy that we do not consider the thoughts are the cause of our emotional suffering, but they feed that suffering when we become blindly attached to those thoughts. So when we blindly accept the thoughts, we tend to become controlled by those thoughts and then they proliferate and they feed the underlying emotion.

So this is the process known as reactive identification, and that’s the real issue more than the thoughts themselves. It’s the blind identification with those thoughts and emotions and beliefs as well that causes the problem.

So the way we break out of the cycle of reactive thinking that feeds our anxiety and depression is by the process of mindfulness meditation. Now, this is defined in mindfulness psychology as I teach it, as the process of meditating on the mind. So here we meditate on those very thoughts and the emotions underneath the thoughts that are fueling those thoughts in order to break the habitual nature of those reactions.

We have to bring consciousness to the habitual reactions in order to break the automatic unconscious aspects, which is what is required for any habit to operate.

So when we illuminate our thoughts with conscious awareness, with mindfulness, then we can begin to change our relationship with them so that they are reduced to being objects in the mind rather than being our identity, something we identify with. Seeing them as objects in the mind is absolutely fundamental for psychological healing.

The other aspect of this process of turning them into objects is that you become the observer. That’s what we define as the True Self, the observing consciousness that witnesses those thoughts and other objects that arise in the mind but is not identified with them. So in this process, you begin to grow into your True Self, which is not defined by the contents of your mind, and this is extremely important too, because most emotional suffering is caused by this blind identification with thoughts and in that process, we cannot change the thoughts.

It’s only when you develop that objective consciousness around the thoughts that they’re able to change and heal. So we learn to meditate on our mind. This is central. This is what the Buddha taught and this is what I find to be effective, and Mindfulness Therapy simply takes these principles and develops them further.
