Welcome! My name is Peter Strong and I provide Online Mindfulness Therapy for overcoming anxiety and depression without using medications, but using the methods of Mindfulness Therapy and mindfulness training in general, including mindfulness meditation.

So during these sessions I will be teaching you how to apply mindfulness to work with your anxiety or depression or other emotional problems. And this approach is very successful, very effective indeed, because it teaches you how to break out of the habitual reactive thinking that fuels anxiety and depression.

In meditation real cultivating our basic identity, if you like, as being that Skype, not the contents of the mind, not the clouds.

So mindfulness meditation is the process of training to be free from identification with thoughts. Not to be free from thoughts but to be free from the blind attachment to thoughts.

So this is extremely important when we’re working with anxiety and depression. We need to break the habit of just becoming overwhelmed by anxiety or depression-based thoughts. We need to change our relationship to those thoughts and beliefs so that we can hold them in the mind but without becoming identified and without becoming lost in the river of reactivity that follows that identification process.

So this means that our mindfulness meditation is a process of training with the mind. And so we must meditate on the mind. If you wish to develop freedom from the mind, from thoughts and beliefs and emotional reactions then you must meditate on thoughts and beliefs and emotional reactions because that’s the only way that you will be able to cultivate freedom.

So you work with the mind, not against the mind, but with the mind and that is the process that I call mindfulness meditation. We’re learning to be more present with the mind. That presence is the quality of freedom; the lack of presence is the quality of suffering, and that is where we become lost in the reactivity of the mind.

So if you are suffering from anxiety then you learn to meditate on that anxiety.

During our Skype sessions together, I will teach you how to meditate on the mind. I will teach you how to meditate on your anxiety or depression. I will teach you how to meditate on your thoughts and beliefs. I’ll teach you how to meditate on emotional trauma, which is often the core issue behind anxiety and depression. I’ll teach you how to work with those mental objects in a way that promotes their healing as opposed to simply perpetuating suffering.

Medications provide a temporary relief, but you should not go to medications for a solution to anxiety or depression. It’s really, in the end, no more than another mechanism of avoidance or suppression. And that will not heal the underlying cause of your anxiety or depression. You must embrace the reality of your anxiety or depression, which means looking at the emotional reactions, the thought reactions, the beliefs and the emotional trauma that you become identified with through habit.

Breaking that habit is the way to heal permanently to overcome anxiety and depression.

We need to break free from what is called “reactive identification” in mindfulness therapy. Reactive identification describes the process whereby you become blindly identified with your emotions, whereby you become overwhelmed by them and whereby you contract into those emotions, essentially losing your identity and taking on the identity of the emotion itself. This creates tremendous emotional suffering as we contract into the emotion itself and lose our perspective. And it also feeds the emotion itself and prevents it changing. Learning to overcome reactive identification is a central feature of the mindfulness therapy that I offer via Skype.
